NYC-style food trucks coming to Sydney11

The City of Sydney Council is apparently inviting expressions of interest from vendors who have ‘the full capability to design and deliver innovative menus, and prepare, cook and vend gourmet style take-away food for public consumption’.

Hubby and I were BIG fans of the Mexican food trucks in NYC (best burrito’s we’ve ever eaten!), so we are very excited about this upcoming project for Sydney. With the large diversity of cultures and the plethora of excellent local produce, there is bound to be some awesome fresh and delicious offerings.

The first trucks are going to be trialled between January 2012 and January 2013, so there isn’t long to wait! {Photo and story via Concrete Playground}.

Have you tried food from trucks in America or elsewhere? Would you eat from them here?

I have eaten at a lot of these in LA. LOVED them, we did a mini food truck tour, went to about 7-8 over about 3 weeks. Kogi was my favourite and the Grilled Cheese Truck.

  • Oh awesome! I cant wait :D

  • Great news! I hope I get to see them around. :-)

Looks like I’m going to have to make a weekend trip to Sydney when these start appearing! Yay – welcome to foodie heaven Australia :)

  • Yay! This is long overdue. The taco truck in Melbourne is awesome, I hope they do something similar here.

  • I love the concept of food vans- as long as it’s done well!

    Love the idea…how about Perth??

    • Sorry Caroline, only know about Sydney for now! Christie

  • As Emma mentioned, The Taco Truck does a roaring trade down here in Melbourne. The tweet their location and sell out in a few hours.Only certain local councils let them operate though due to bizarre food handling laws – they need to get with the project!
