We are absolutely loving the scenic drive down the California coast on HWY 1. The ever-changing landscape is so beautiful and inspiring.
The drive just south of San Fransisco was directly on the coast and it was amazing to see the horizon meeting the ocean from so high up. It sounds silly, but you can really see how the world is round with the way the horizon curves and glistens.
We stopped for one night in Santa Cruz, a little sea-side town defined by a huge pier, boardwalk and amusement park. Our $40-a-night Travelodge served us well and included free wifi!
The next quick stop was in Monterey which is famous for its Aquarium that houses a great white shark, but we saw plenty of wildlife at the California Academy of Sciences in San Fran, so we just took a few quick pics.
Carmel-by-the-sea is an absolute must see. It’s a quaint little town with tree lined streets, a picture-perfect beach and headlands and plenty of antique and boutique shops and galleries.
Then we found ourselves in Morro Bay, famous for Morro Rock, a natural wonder. We drove in at sunset which was the perfect time to see the bay in all it’s glory (see pic below).
Today we had our Thanksgiving dinner at Outrigger restaurant; juicy turkey breast, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes (for me), roasted red potatoes (for hubby), steamed veggies and hot bread rolls with whipped butter. Yum!
We had lunch at 1pm and I’m writing this post at 8pm and I’m still not hungry for dinner! Nice work Outrigger.
Isn’t it beautiful? Very romantic.
OK, more updates soon from LA!!!
