New Year’s Eve was eventful for us. But not in the way you’d expect.
We spent the evening at Lismore Base Hospital emergency department as Poppy had a febrile convulsion at around 3.30pm and scared the living daylights out of us.
My sister used to have them when she was younger so I knew to immediately get Poppy into a tepid bath to cool her down and get her comfy on her side in the foetal position. Hubby called the ambulance and we waited the longest 10 minutes of our lives. So, so scary.
Don’t worry though, the story ends well. She is fine. Convulsions of this kind are actually quite common in young children as their tiny bodies find it difficult to regulate their temperature – and she was given the all clear.
However, when we finally got her home and to sleep with a normal temperature, we were the ones that needed to cool down.
