A meal for your heart, not your hips

[Fish Burger with radish and olives]

Are you craving greasy fish and chips? Have this instead. I guarantee your hips will love you for it!

Sometimes you really want fish… and chips. Lots of them.

Sometimes you find the willpower to resist and then feel really good about yourself. This is one of those times.

There’s no fancy cooking here, just fresh fish, fresh bread and some crunchy and salty toppings. I’m a little bit addicted to radishes and olives at the moment. I’ve been munching on them separately as snacks and then a light turned on and this combination was born. I love it when that happens.

So skip the chips and serve this yummy burger with a tall glass of iced water with fresh slices of lime. Then it’s equally good for your body as it is for your taste buds.

Happy cooking, Christie

Fish burgers with radish and olives
serves 4

4 wholemeal sesame seed rolls
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
lettuce leaves (I used butter lettuce)
2 radishes, thinly sliced
12 black Kalamata olives, pitted and halved
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 thick white fish fillets, skin removed (I used Blue Eye)
lime slices to serve

1. Slice the rolls in half and spread with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise each.

2. Arrange the lettuce leaves, radish slices and olives onto the bottom half of each roll.

3. Heat the olive oil in a large heavy based frying pan over high heat. Cook the fish fillets for 2-3 minutes each side. Add to the burgers, season to taste and top with the other half of the roll.

4. Serve with iced water with lime slices added.

I love fish sandwiches! I don’t know why, but I never even think of making them, thank you for the reminder! Great idea!

Just the title along is great….you could write a book on it…something like….”Not for your hips cookbook, fresh, healthy cooking “. :)
I think non-fancy cooking is something that we all appreciate, especially when it’s so fresh, flavorful and healthy like your sandwich.

Man, I’m a bad speller…I meant “just your title ALONE is great!”

    You can’t beat Sydney seafood.

Don’t forget to thank your old man for the fresh fish!

You’re right my hips need one of these burgers….This is the second radish recipe that makes me smile this week. The other recipe splits open a radish and eat it with butter and salt…..Yea, I know, not hip lovin’!

How did you know I have a serious radish addiction? I think I need to find a support group. Lovely sandwich!

Actually we have a small “fast food” place here. They make the BEST fish sandwiches. They are not fried, but grilled fish on a whole wheat bun, with lettuce and tomato. Ok, so I do get the tarter sauce on it :) But wow, it’s good!!

Awesome recipe — definitely a lot of good textures going on here.

Nina - I saw that radish butter recipe too! Yum!

Laura - Mmmm, olives and fish are really good together.

Sophie - Yes, definitely. Radishes are very ravishing! ;)

    Dragon - Let’s make one!

Audrey - Grilled fish is the best kind, I think. You can really taste the flavour that way and not just oil/batter. Although this fish was pan fried, it was only in 1 tablespoon of oil for four pieces, so that’s not too bad.

    Jude - Thanks!

Just what I need Christie after the shameful fattening French Toast, Donut Pudding and Ribs I have made within the last week. I leave here embarassed by my glutony. Thanks for keeping me in check!

    Thanks Guys!

And Kim, don’t feel guilty, those cola ribs were absolutely gorgeous! I would have gobbled them up in a second. ;)

I’d like to invite you to have a look on a funny home-made decoration - the radish mouse on cold spread.

    Best regards from Germany
