Travel Stories

Around the world in… a life time! Stories from my various travels, mostly edible.

In 2009, hubby and I embarked on a trip of a lifetime, visiting 26 cities in 6 months. I’ve posted a lot of our adventures, but there are still so many in the archives plus more trips to come!

Tsukiji Market Tokyo Tuna
[Smoking a cigarette and slicing up a tuna? You'll see it at Tsukiji!]

Long time no blog, hey? Sorry guys!

Well I’ve finally got some good news. Fig & Cherry is taking a world tour! First stop Japan (obviously, see pic above), then Barcelona, London, Stockholm, Budapest, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, LA then back home in time for Christmas.

I’ve been in Tokyo the last 4 days and I’m currently in Kyoto. In fact, I’ve just had lunch at the famous Roan Kikunoi. It was a traditional kaiseki meal which is a degustation using the freshest seasonal ingredients. I’ll explain in more detail in my post next week – wait until you see the photos, you’ll drool!

Until I get a chance to post up all my adventures please enjoy this funny shot I took of a man at Tsukiji market slicing up a fresh tuna. I’ve got loads more pics of the market, including the frantic tuna auction, so stay tuned.

Snowed in with bare cupboards!

Posted on February 6, 2009

[The view from my apartment right now. So windy and snowy!]

Snow is cool, but not when the cupboards are bare! We need to get our coats on and head to Sainsbury’s for supplies.

It’s only a 5 minute walk away but I think we’re going to get covered in snow. The things we do for food… I think it’s braising or soup weather. What do you think?

I’m really cold, Christie x

Taste Media Launch + lots of SNOW

Postcard from Milton Keynes

I’m feeling a little sad today because a large group of my Sydney food blogger pals went to an event on Wednesday night – the Taste Festival Media Launch.

I was invited to go, but as you know I’m currently in the UK on a work trip, so could not attend. The good news is that the actual event is in March so I’ll definitely be back to enjoy it. (more…)

Happy Australia Day!

POSTCARD FROM ENGLAND

Hey Guys!

I’ve made my way across the globe to the UK, aka The Cold Zone, and feeling a little jet lagged.

Unfortunately I’m off to work this morning, for the first of my business meetings, while you’re all living it up at your tasty BBQs and soaking up the warm weather *sob* *sob*.

I’ll probably eat some Tim Tams and have a nice cup of English breakfast tea (which is just called ‘tea’ here). You know, there’s so many Aussies that you can buy Tim Tams in the supermarket! (more…)

A very special Aussie-Japanese Xmas

Posted on January 9, 2009

[It just wouldn't be an Aussie Xmas without fat, juicy prawns!]

I know this post is ridiculously late, but hey, better late than never right?

You’re about to indulge in a multiple course menu cooked by a Japanese chef and plated up beautifully by my parents-in-law Steve and Angela. (more…)
