Cookware Tests

I am a bit of an appliance freak. I love trying out new kitchen gadgets and the best part of writing this blog is testing new products and working with great brands.

No gadget is too small or too big to review, so if you have one then please get in touch via my PR/Advertising page.

Rich chocolate layer cake + Sweet! by Sally Wise

Posted on May 15, 2012

Like most food bloggers, I am quite obsessed with cookbooks. I get sent dozens of them every year to review and I buy dozens more. A lot of them sit in boxes as I just don’t have enough room to display them in my house (although I’m working on rectifying this).

When I receive a new one I¬†usually bookmark a few pages of ‘must cook’ recipes and save the rest for when I need inspiration to flick through.

It’s not often that I go crazy bookmarking them, but I found myself in a Pinterest-style frenzy with this new one by Sally Wise called Sweet! (you might know her better as the slow cooker queen). (more…)

Roast duck & pineapple red curry + cookbook review

Posted on February 14, 2012

If you’ve come looking for lovey-dovey Valentine’s stuff, I’m afraid you won’t find it.

I show my loved ones my appreciation everyday with good food, smiles and hugs. They don’t need heart-shaped chocolate/candy/cake, bunches of flowers or a garish red balloon to feel the love. OK, end rant!

Instead, I present you with this spicy, sweet and sour Thai red curry from a new cookbook I recently received: Wok, by Rachel Lane, which will warm you up from the inside out. Just like those fuzzy feelings on a first date (that’s going well).

See, I told you food is love! (more…)

Book review: Paris by Janelle McCulloch

Posted on November 2, 2011

A few weeks ago I arrived home from an overseas trip to Paris, Budapest and Mallorca to find this book on my desk. How coincidental!

We were visiting relatives in Paris – my brother in law and his wife are pregnant (congrats guys! So excited to have a cousin for Poppy) – so we got treated to awesome home cooking and got the low-down on where to eat, play and shop. Magnifiques!

If you aren’t lucky enough to have relatives in Paris (sorry!), and want to visit, then this is the book for you. (more…)

Ginger chicken and pumpkin casserole

Hands up who loves Tupperware? My hand is up. All the way up.

I am one of those freaks that needs to have everything in a container. My pantry is neatly stacked with everything decanted. My husbands ‘lunch box’ is a series of different containers filled with treats.

My fridge has all leftovers placed into individual containers: nuts are stacked on one shelf and half-cans of beans, beetroot and olives decanted and stacked on another shelf. Even cheese is taken out of its nasty plastic wrap and placed inside a container, sometimes wrapped in greaseproof paper, if necessary. Yes, I’m pedantic. (more…)

Cooking with KitchenAid: all you need to know!

Posted on September 19, 2011

Today I’m very happy to share an interview I did recently with Jo Richardson. Jo works with KitchenAid Australia and New Zealand as their official home economist. Doesn’t that sound like a dream job?

Jo is an absolute wiz at using all KitchenAid products but I quizzed her specifically about the Artisan Stand Mixer. The beautiful one pictured above in ‘pistachio’ was kindly gifted to me by KitchenAid so that I could have a play. I just love the muted retro colour and it works like a dream! (more…)
