I love doing cooking courses! There is always something new to learn that can help you in the kitchen.
I am not very good at baking so those courses are most beneficial for me, but I still adore doing courses where I am familiar with the cuisine because learning new tips and tricks is so addictive.

Don’t you just love it when you click with some people instantly? That’s what happened when I met Josephine and Christophe* from Le Tres Bon Restaurant in Bungendore.
Josephine kindly picked me up from the Crowne Plaza in Canberra and drove me to their restaurant for the cooking class. In the 45 minutes it took to get there, we talked with excited pace (read: yabbering!) about life, the universe and everything – and had so much in common! It was a very good indication of the enjoyment to come.
Christophe is of French heritage and Josephine is of Italian - two countries that are fiercely passionate about the incredible fungus that is truffles (or, tuber melanosporum, for you science-y types). It was wonderful to hear them both speak with such love for these ugly little specimens who fetch such a high price for their pungent flavour and aroma. (more…)

You see, I’m the slowest in the class and she’s trying to move onto the next step!
As an avid cook, you might think I’d breeze through this class, but actually I’m quite handicapped when it comes to ‘arty’ things like decorating. In saying that, check out the photo above – they turned out beautifully don’t you think?

If you’re ever in Fez, Morocco, you must go to Cafe Clock. It’s an oasis amid the chaos of the medina, plus it serves great food, has free wi-fi and the staff are super friendly. Not to mention they have wonderful cooking classes – I found out first hand during a private lesson!
I met my teacher Tariq at Cafe Clock and we made a connection almost instantly. He’s very personable and has lots of stories to tell. It was a real adventure wandering through the market with him as almost everyone we passed said hello – it was like being in the presence of a celebrity. (more…)
