Vegan

No meat, dairy, eggs, honey or other animal products. Just pure veggie goodness.

I’m not vegan but I have friends and family who are and I know some of you, my readers, are too so I try my best to give you a good range of yummy treats, both meals and desserts.

Spiced plum syrup {vegan, GF, sugar-free}

Posted on February 13, 2013

Crepes are one of my most favourite naughty breakfasts. Or desserts. Or snack while walking around Paris.

I always remember how wonderful they are when Pancake Tuesday comes around each year, as I never seem to make them in between. And, sadly, I don’t take that many trips to Paris.

This year I happened to have a glut of plums from the market. I bought them for Poppy as a substitute for her beloved nectarines, of which the season has ended, however she didn’t really take to them.

Three days in the fruit bowl next to some ripening bananas rendered them too soft to eat, so there was only one thing to do.

Chilli glazed tofu bites {vegan, GF}

Got people coming over at short notice? Have they got diet restrictions like gluten free, vegetarian or vegan?

No problemo! I’ve got you covered with the easy canapé that can also double as a spicy main course with some steamed rice and greens.

Now wipe that sweat off your brow from worrying about cooking for people with allergies and get into the kitchen to whip these up! (more…)

As much as I love olive oil and fresh lemon as a salad dressing, it can get a bit old.

Sometimes I add a little mustard or balsamic vinegar to liven things up. Other times a dollop of mayonnaise or sour cream. I even get crazy with anchovies, capers or olives when I’m feeling particularly daring.

One day I found some perfectly ripe local avocados at the green grocer and I wanted to use them right away. In a salad. With a dressing that was different than usual. (more…)

Healthy Christmas Truffles

Posted on December 21, 2012

Truffles are usually made of rich melted chocolate and full fat cream but this version has neither of those ingredients!

Here I’ve combined nuts, seeds, dried fruit and a few other extras to create a delicious treat that the whole family can eat without any guilt. They may even get a little natural energy boost too. Score!

I know my red coconut flakes look a little orange, but hey, I used natural food colourings and they weren’t as vibrant. Better than all the nasty chemicals in the colourful ones. (more…)

Healthier White Christmas Slice

Posted on December 17, 2012

This post is sponsored by Vitasoy.

White Christmas is a real festive indulgence.

For me personally, it’s far too sweet. But I’m always saying things are too sweet that most people think aren’t. Like cupcakes and macarons and fudge.

I know, I know, I’m weird!

Anyway, back to the slice. This version is healthier because it’s completely dairy-free and vegan… and still tastes great! Promise. (more…)
