[Lamb, eggplant and feta cous cous salad]
This is my mini attempt at globalising my blog; a salad that appeals for the weather in both hemispheres.
It’s Spring in the North, flowers are blooming and it’s warming up, so make the most of gorgeous seasonal lamb.
It’s Autumn in the South, but please don’t indulge in stodgy food just yet, choose to eat this warm salad instead.
I’m a firm believer that salads are not just a Summer thing, they’re more than just leaves and dressing, and if you think outside those constraints the possibilities are endless. Warm, cold, hot, room temperature – they’re all good. It’s no coincidence that the salads category in my recipe index has the most entries!
I really love the creativity of composing salads; choosing the protein, carbohydrate and vegetable elements, harmonising the salty, bitter, sweet and sour flavours and balancing the soft, crunchy, hot and cold textures. It’s a real art form and one I never tire of. (more…)

[Parma ham and Manchego parcels]
When I have friends over for lunch I like to keep it quite relaxed so that I can get time to drink some bubbly and enjoy myself. The reality though, is that mostly I can’t help myself and want to plate everything up perfectly and serve it fine-dining style.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a perfectionist, sometimes it’s a curse to have such high expectations of yourself, but mostly it’s a good thing. I think. Anyway, when I am wanting to appear relaxed I like to serve a starter that’s interactive, where guests can just help themselves at their leisure. This, cunningly, allows me to prepare more complex dishes in the kitchen while they’re busy stuffing their faces… (more…)

[Spiced creamy tomato chicken]
Rice is a major comfort food for me. Basmati, Jasmine, Brown, Wild, Sushi and Rice Noodles of any thickness are what I crave when I want a big bowl of something hearty and heart-warming to soothe my soul.
I think it boils down (no pun intended) to my childhood. My mum served up something delicious with rice most nights of the week; beef stroganoff, chicken goulash, stuffed capsicums, honey-soy chicken wings… the list goes on. All yummy European dishes that fill you up and send you nicely off to sleep.
These days I’m more likely to go for a Thai Pad See Ew made with thick rice noodles, beef, sweet soy sauce and Chinese greens or a spicy Indian Madras curry with fragrant pilau rice. This recipe is inspired by the latter, but designed to be a quick and easy after work dinner. (more…)
I have two lovely little sisters (and a lovely brother) and it’s one of their birthdays today. They’re actually not that little to tell you the truth, they’re well into their twenties, but hey, they’ll always be little to me.
The sad thing is that I’m not in the same country as them at the moment, so my little sister Nicole is going to have to accept this picture of a delicious Beard Papa cream puff rather than a homemade cake. I ate it for you too, Nic!
Now before you all start giving me the evil eye for eating her birthday present, you’ll be very happy to know that last year I made Nicole and her best friend Laura a four course dinner made entirely of chocolate and they loved it! (more…)
Make your love for food profitable by becoming a Foodbuzz Publisher!
You may have noticed that my blog has had a bit of a re-design over the past few weeks. This is for two reasons; firstly, I wanted to remove the categories on the right side bar and create dedicated recipe and reviews pages and secondly, because I joined Foodbuzz as a Featured Publisher and needed space to advertise.
Foodbuzz is like Facebook for Food Lovers, but even better! I’m pretty hot on Facebook, so that’s a big call from me. The great thing about Foodbuzz is that the whole community loves food (just like me), so I feel right at home. You can post up your own recipes, rate your favourite restaurants and find lots and lots of new blogs to read. Sound like heaven? It is! (more…)
